This 15 days  Mount Kailash Kora tour is suitable for travelers who looking for a tour that is cost-effective, combines the best Tibet has to offer spiritually, naturally and stories. You will spend two days to explore the holy Lhasa city. Then you will head to the world's highest peak, the Mount Everest and enjoy a beautiful sunrise of Mt Everest. Next, you’ll take a 3-day Kora around Mt.Kailash where is the pilgrimage destination of Buddhism, Bon, Hindu and Jainism worshippers alike. Pilgrims go for a trip to the sacred mountain to complete a spiritual circuit, as it is believed that it will wash away their sins. There you will be amazed by the wilderness of western Tibet as well as experience the rich culture and religious charm of this land.

Daily Itinerary 

Day 1 Arrival In Lhasa (3680m)

Taking flight into Tibet will give you a panorama of the Himalayas or spend 1-2 days to cross the breathtaking Tibetan Plateau by train. Upon arrival, you will be greeted at the Lhasa Airport/Railway by our staff and transferred to the hotel. From the airport, it takes about 1.5 hours. From the train station, it only takes 20 minutes. And then you’d better have a good rest in your hotel to get acclimatized to the high altitude. If you feel good, you can wander around the city and take a panoramic view of the Potala Palace but try not to overtax yourself.

You can see famous manasteries on the way to Mount Everest.

Day 2 Lhasa Sightseeing

Highlights:  Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery

The first station is Drepung Monastery about 45km to the north of Lhasa. It’s the most important monastery of Gelugpa in Tibetan Buddhism and considered one of the 'Three Great Monasteries'. The hot attraction is the site of the annual Shoton Festival, with the display of huge Buddhist painting on the hillside.

After lunch, you will head to the Sera Monastery which is another one of the ‘Great Three’ Gelug monasteries. It’s famous for the valuable sutra Kanjur kept in it. The most attractive event is the Buddhism activities of "Monks Debate" for around 15:00 – 17:00 every day.

You will have a welcoming dinner this tonight, talk with group members from all over the world.

Day 3 Lhasa Sightseeing

Highlights:  Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street

Today’s tour will begin to visit the famous world heritage Potala Palace, locating on the Red Hill 2km northwest of Lhasa. It's well known as the cardinal landmark of Tibet and a masterpiece of Tibetan architecture. Also, the most valuable collections in Potala Palace are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and meditation Cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.

After lunch, you will visit the Jokhang Temple, which is the oldest Buddhist temple in Tibet and the ultimate pilgrimage destination. The most valuable collection in the Jokhang Temple is the statue of Sakyamuni at age of twelve. From there, you will stroll in the old alleys of Barkhor Street where you can drink the sweet tea, chat with locals to understand the real life in Lhasa.

You will view the beautiful lake on the way to Mount Everest.

Day 4 Lhasa- Gyantse (4040 M), 262km, Approx 5hrs

Highlights: Yamdroktso Lake, Karola Glacier, Simila Mountain Pass, Pelkor Chöde Monastery with Gyantse Kumbum, Far view of Gyantse Fortress

After a full exploration of Lhasa, we will drive over the Kampala Pass (4794m) from Lhasa to Shigatse. On the way, you will take a short hike along the turquoise waters of Yamdrok Lake, which is one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet. The lake is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains.

Later you will enjoy the stunning Karo La Glacier. Here, you can get an up-close view of Mt. Nojin Kangtsang and the glaciers coming off of it.

Then visit Pelkor Chode Monastery is built in the15th century and situated on the northwestern edge of Gyantse. It’s famous for the splendid Buddhist Stupa (100-Thousand-Buddha Tower).  

Day 5 Gyantse-Shigatse (3840m), 96km, Approx 2hrs

Highlights: Tashilhunpo monastery

In the morning, we’ll leave for Shigatse. On the way, we will go through the fertile Nyangchu Valley, a wide agricultural plain where colorfully decorated yaks and horses. In the summer, you’re likely to see a large landscape of barley field.
After getting to Shigatse in the afternoon, we will visit the Tashi Lhunpo monastery, which is the home of Panchen Lama.

In this journey, you will see the beautiful mount Everest.

Day 6 Shigatse -Tingri -Rongbuk –EBC(5200m), 350km, Approx. 7hrs

Highlights:  Rongbuk Monastery, Sunset of golden Everest peak

Today we will go straight from Shigatse to Everest base camp. After getting the Alien’s travel permit, you will be through the Tsola Pass (4600M) and the Gyatsola Pass (5248M) which is a great spot for all mountains of the Himalayas over 8,000 meters. From here, you can see the world's highest five peaks. From Geu La, you will reach to Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world. The surprising view of Everest from here will be a high point of your journey!  Then drive to the Tent Camp to stay overnight. If the weather is good, you can get a breathtaking glimpse of the sunset of golden Everest peak.

Travel note:

According to weather condition, you will stay in Everest Tent Camp from May to Oct or at Rongbuk Monastery's guesthouse because of cold weather from Nov~Apr.

Day 7 EBC-Saga (4600m), 450km, Approx. 9hrs

Highlights:  Sunrise of Everest Peak, Everest Base Camp, Far view of the Mt.Shishapangma, Peikutso Lake

In the morning, you will see the wonderful sunrise of Everest Peak if weather permits at the lodging area. On the way from the Tent hotels to Everest Base Camp, if you like trekking, you can take about two hours to do a short trek.

After visiting EBC, we will drive to saga country. You will far fabulous view of the Mt.Shishapangma (8012m) and see the beautiful Peikutso Lake along the way. Then continue to Saga, you are so lucky to see a number of wild animals like the wild donkeys, wild antelopes.

Day 8 Saga – Darchen (4560m), 490km, Approx 9hrs

Highlights: Sand dunes, beautiful grassland and local's villages, Far view of the Mt. Naimonanyi

In the morning, we will begin to get to Darchen from Saga. On the way, we will drive across the vast plains and have an amazing view of Himalayans to the south and Trans-Himalayan to the north.

In the late afternoon, we will get to the Darchen by crossing the sand dunes, mountains, and sandstone valleys. Then, you can explore the peaceful Darchen town by yourself.

Trek from Darchen to Kailash.

Day 9 Trek From Darchen-Dirakpuk (4700m), 20km, Approx 7hrs

Highlights: Mt. Kailash

Today you’ll start the first day of trekking around Mt.Kailash. You can choose trek from Darchen or take an eco-bus to Sarshung valley and start the trekking from there. It takes about two hours to do trekking. Then we will reach to a grassy plain populated by nomads. From here, it is another two hours before reaching Drirapuk (4920m), where you will stay overnight there in a guesthouse.

Day 10 Trek From Dirakpuk-Zuktulpuk (4790m), 18km, Approx 6hrs

Highlights: Wild landscapes around Mt.Kailash, Zutulpuk Monastery

Today, you’ll start the most challenging of the trekking by crossing the ridges above the peak of Dolma-la pass at 5630m above the sea level. After a short rest in a teahouse, we will continue to climb down into the long valley and have for lunch at the Shabjay Dakpo nomadic tent. Then you will finally reach to Zuktulpuk Monastery, where you can find the footprint and handprint of Milarepa inside the cave.

Day 11 Trek From Zuktulpuk- Darchen, 7km, Approx 2hrs; Drive Darchen -Manasarovar (4560m), 40km, Approx 1hr

Highlights:  Sunset of Manasarovar lake

Today, you’ll continue to complete the Kora for trekking about 7km. It’s easy and relaxed than last day. In the afternoon, we will drive to the holy lake Manasarovar. It's a jewel of Tibet and one has to visit it, bathe in it and have a puja next to it.

Day 12 Manasarovar – Payang-Saga, 490km, Approx 9hrs

Highlights: Sunrise of Manasarovar lake

In the morning, you can get up early to wander and see beautiful Sunrise of Lake Manasarovar. Then, drive back to Saga.

Trekking to Kailash

Day 13 Saga-Lhatse-Shigatse, 450km, Approx 8hrs

Highlights: Beautiful grassland and local's villages

We will drive back to Shigatse and enjoy the fabulous view along the way.  

Day 14 Shigatse – Lhasa, 280km, Approx 5hrs

Highlights: The Yarlung Tsangpo, Tibetan Incense Workshop in Nyemo

On the way to Lhasa from Shigatse along the friendship way, you will follow the beautiful Yarlung River and a number of beautiful local villages. In Nyemo, you’ll have a chance to visit the Tibetan Incense Workshop, Where you can see the unique cultural artifacts of Tibet. Later, you will arrive in Lhasa with full time to wander the Lhasa city and sort out the beautiful photos you took.

Day 15 Lhasa Departure

Your tour ends today. After breakfasts, you will be free for the morning. Our staff will pick up you at your hotel to transfer to Lhasa Airport/Railway.
